OVERCOMING DISTRACTION 1

What is distraction?

Distraction is the process of diverting the attention of an individual or group from a desired area of focus and thereby blocking or diminishing the reception of desired information.

There are so many things competing for our attention in life. Some divert attention from the major thing to the minor or irrelevant so as to stop or block what you set out to achieve. You must be discerning to know what to allow and what to disallow.

Your destination or goal is a major factor in determining what you should accommodate and what you should discard. If you don’t know where you are going, everywhere will be your bus stop. Elisha knew what he wanted. A double portion of Elijah’s anointing. Elijah told him it was a difficult thing he asked for. As difficult as it was, the possibility was obvious. Elisha was determined to get it. Based on Elijah’s response to him, it was dependent on him to actualize his desire. It is mostly dependent on us through persistence to get what we want. They sure don’t come easy. The higher your goal, the greater the distraction that will come your way. It takes only focus to overcome. Fifty sons of prophets came to meet Elisha to tell him what he already knew. Imagine if this was the company he kept. He acknowledged what they said and moved on. That was a weight that he knew had to be laid aside in other to pursue his conviction, not something he should process or ponder on. The number or class of people that came to him were not enough to shift his focus. He was a man on assignment. It takes determination, focus and persistence to reach that desired goal. Failure is not a proof that you can’t make it. It is only a pointer to the fact that you are probably not doing it right.

Ecclesiastes 10:15 KJV

[15] The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.

There is always a way to get what you want. There is so much the Lord wants to do this year but you need to adhere to the warning that Jesus gave Martha. He said to her, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her. This year, be deliberate about doing away with every form of distraction. Choose only the needful.

The Lord will lead you and help you as you lean on Him. Like Apostle Paul, keep reaching forth unto those things which are before. Keep pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Shalom
