OVERCOMING DISTRACTION 2

Nehemiah 6:2-3 KJV

[2] That Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying, Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief. [3] And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?

Someone said we live in an interruption-based world that can be damaging to productivity. It is becoming easier and easier to be distracted. Even those who consider themselves to be very self-disciplined are not immune.

Distraction shifts focus. It can be obvious or subtle and can cause major setbacks. Degree of distraction varies. Not everyone can be distracted by the same things. Some are distracted by people’s opinion, television, phones, association e.t.c. Anything can cause distraction. However some distractions are unavoidable due to situations beyond your control. You can’t do anything about such but you can work on those that are within your control. Distraction can have grave consequences. It can allow opportunities to slip by, lead to wrong direction and make one miss set goals. Nehemiah was informed that Jerusalem was in ruins. With the help of the king, he set out to do something about it. While he was rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, Sanballat and Geshem sent message to him to meet them somewhere. He sent a reply to them that he was doing a great work and was not ready to allow the work to cease. He understood their intentions and refused to play along. He saw his work, which he termed great work, as more important than meeting with them. He had purposed to accomplish the task ahead of him. It takes determination to overcome distraction. Distraction causes one to be unproductive. Jesus said every branch that does not bear fruit, He will take away. The grace to be productive and bear much fruit is upon you. You will be productive and fruitful in Jesus name.
