PEACE IN STORM

Joshua 1:9 KJV

[9] Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

God knows that we will be faced with situations that can cause fear so he warned Joshua (the same warning goes for all of us) not to fear or be dismayed, that is concern and distress caused by something unexpected. Such an incident that can cause distress happened in the Bible. Let us see what should be done in trying times.

The disciples were in a ship to go ahead of Jesus to the other side. The ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. They screamed for fear thinking it was a ghost. But Jesus assured them that it was Him. Peter said Lord if it is you, bid me to come. Jesus said Come. Peter walked on water to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. Jesus saved him and when they were come into the ship. The wind ceased. The wind was contrary before they saw Jesus, but because their attention was on Him, they didn’t notice or remember that the wind was boisterous.

The same thing happened when Peter walked on water. He didn’t notice the contrary wind because he focused his attention on Jesus, as he was walking on the sea. The moment he took his attention from Jesus to his environment, he became aware of the contrary wind that had always been there. Fear gripped him and he began to sink. This is not different from the economy of the nations that is contrary at this moment. The more we pay attention on what is happening, the more our faith decreases and fear takes over. Fear stops the flow of divine intervention. No matter what is happening around you, for as long as you look unto Jesus, the author and the finisher of your faith, when men are cast down, you shall say there’s a lifting. Don’t let what you can’t do anything about, take a toll on your heart and your health by worrying.

Hold on to Him that can handle the situation. Is anything too hard for Him? Don’t let anything get to your heart. Guard your heart with all diligence. You may not see rain, you may not see wind but be assured that your valley will always be filled because God is at work. You don’t have to feel it or see it. He’s working things out for you.

When Jesus came in to their ship, the wind ceased. Allow Jesus into the ship of your business, career, marriage, home and the God of peace will give you peace as He makes a way for you.

Shalom
