QUIETNESS IS GOLDEN

Isaiah 30:15 KJV

[15] For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.

I had been pondering over this topic for a while but last night during the prayer on PR180+, I got a witness in my spirit to do this write up. Quietness is the fact or state of abstaining from speech. Quietness is tranquility, stillness, serenity, silence, calmness, soundlessness. There is strength in quietness but a lot of people don’t know. We give out our power in talking too much. Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent. There’s a time to speak and a time to keep silent. If we have to speak, the Bible enjoins us to be quick to hear but slow to speak. A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back. We need to possess a holding on power. There is always the urge to express and defend ourselves. Joseph was accused falsely by Portiphar’s wife. He didn’t say anything because at that point except God justified him, no amount of words he spoke could justify him. Jesus in the face of accusations, was quiet. Many of us have tried to convince people who cannot be convinced. This only leads to waste of time, more friction and frustration. Job said “Teach me, and I will hold my tongue”. This is a statement we should make our prayer point. We need to discern the difference between knowing when to speak or be silent. A time of quietness can be a time for collecting our thoughts and training our minds. Silence can be golden and has the ability to yield more power than words. It has its advantages and disadvantages but the advantages outweighs the disadvantages. When we’re still, God shows up.

Note the following;

-Pray always.

-Let your words be precious. Don’t waste it.

-Speak only when it is needful. Not to prove a point.

-Avoid dumb arguments.

-When you are tempted to speak out of provocation, count numbers in your heart. If you can excuse yourself, please do.

Shalom
