BECOMING A BETTER YOU (1)

BECOMING A BETTER YOU (1)

This series Becoming a better you is what we will be looking at for a few weeks. It will include reassessing ourselves, improving ourselves and a lot more. But let me begin with our expectation of others not minding other people’s expectations of us. Would you like to be treated the way you treat others? Some of us expect people to do for us what we can not do for them. We also can not accept from people what we do to others. We need to be fair in life. It’s just so easy to know whether you are fair or not by asking yourself, would I be happy if anyone does this to me or my daughter/son that I love so much? That is why some people change the goal post at the middle of the game. Don’t treat people the way you don’t want to be treated. God is just. We’re sowing seeds daily by what we do. Some women treat their mothers in-law like intruders/enemies, some deal with their spouses with outright disregard. I agree that some of these people go beyond their boundaries but there’s always a better way of dealing with issues. It is when a mosquito falls on your testicles that you will realize there’s a better way of killing mosquitoes. How do you treat your driver, help, neighbor, colleague, friend, in-law, business partner, spouse, children/step child etc? We should learn to bring out the best in people and make them feel good about themselves. Romans 12:18 KJV

[18] If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Living peaceably with others may not be totally dependent on you but you do your bit. That is why the Bible says as much as lies in you. The statement if it be possible is an obvious indication that it is not in every relationship that you can achieve peace. The assignment we have is to work on ourselves first but we’re busy working on others. In the same vein we are quick to apportion blame to others. God asked Adam why he disobeyed, he said it’s the woman you gave me. If we all take responsibility for our actions, we’ll be able to make amendments with ease and live peaceably with people. The Holy Spirit finds expression in an atmosphere of peace. Let us endeavor to be better than who we were yesterday and live in peace with others.

Philippians 4:7 KJV

[7] And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Shalom.
